We decided to travel short haul for a change on our Summer holiday this year, for one reason or another we could only fit a week in, so we decided to try the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, a new addition to our Xclusivity portfolio. I’ve been to Tenerife a few times before, but never during the Summer months, and was really surprised by the perfect climate at this time of year… around 26 degrees for most of the week with short spells of fine cloud cover meaning it didn’t get too hot. A great choice for couples and families with children of all ages, we had a fantastic week at the hotel with our family of grown up and teenage children.
Rock Star Style
There is, of course, a Rock Star theme throughout the hotel, lots of music and features with quirky names which give a nod to the rock star world… All staff members have a rock or pop star alias!
Check-in was efficient and informative, every guest is issued with a Hard Rock festival-style wristband which acts as the key to your room and is scanned to charge drinks or other purchases to your bill. This was surprisingly convenient, no more having that ‘whose got the key?’ conversation as you leave the room.
The main lobby is housed with lots of rock & pop memorabilia and the large open space also acts as the stage for live acts who perform in the evenings. This opens out onto a lovely terrace with comfortable chairs, sofas & even swing seats.
The Perfect Location
The hotel is based on the South-West coast in a resort called Playa Paraiso, around 10km north of Costa Adeje with a transfer time of around 20 – 25 minutes.
We hired a car which we collected at the airport, a smooth process as the car hire depot was in the airport meaning that within about 15 minutes of collecting our luggage we were in the car and on our way to the hotel. The hotel offers free valet parking, so we pulled up right in front of the hotel and handed the keys over to the bell boy.
Playa Paraiso is a small resort with a handful of shops, bars and restaurants right outside the hotel. For a wider choice, Costa Adeje is around a 10-minute drive away. There’s a great supermarket right opposite the hotel entrance which was handy, selling everything you could need.
Your Humble Abode
The room was amazing, we were in a Gold Studio Suite, the décor was ultra-modern, the beds were amazingly comfortable – possibly the best week’s sleep I’ve ever had on holiday. Our 13-year-old daughter had a double sofa-bed in our room. The bathroom sinks and jacuzzi bath are in the main room, separated by his and hers sinks & mirrors, a separate loo and very roomy rainfall shower can be found behind the shiny black ‘hidden’ doors.
The room also had a desk/dressing table with chair, separate comfy chair and long bed-foot stool, even with all this the was lots of room. A lovely circular double lounge bed located on the balcony, along with small table and chair. Our room had double aspect sea view with the sun in the afternoon giving amazing views of the sunset around 8.30pm.
There were lovely ‘Rock Spa’ complimentary bathroom amenities and luxury tea & coffee making facilities. There’s also a mini bar in the room with a menu to choose from, once you place your order the hotel will replenish stocks. Mini bar drinks are charged to the room bill. An extra luxury included some lovely towelling bathrobes and slippers for use during our stay in the room.
We were on half board which gives access for breakfast and lunch in the main buffet restaurant. The choice and quality of food was fantastic. Breakfast is served up to 11am for those late risers, the buffet consisted of everything you could ever want for breakfast, a huge choice of cold and hot buffets including freshly prepared omelettes, eggs, pancakes and other hot favourites. Similarly, the evening buffet had so much choice, it was difficult to choose.
In addition to the main restaurant, the hotel offers 3 speciality dining options, if you’re on a half board basis this gives €30 per adult and €15 per child towards the bill in these restaurants. We recommend the Steak restaurant – Montauk and we spoke to guests who raved about the Asian food in Narumi.
There is also a Sports Bar which serves food & drinks … we dined in here one evening, this is a more casual venue and gives you the chance to take in a football game, boxing match or whatever sport you’re into. This restaurant is chargeable, but the prices are reasonable and service great! A coffee shop in the main foyer of the hotel serves a range of coffees, cakes and pastries, the name of it, in true Hard Rock-style, ‘Constant Grind’. Try the amazing Sky Bar on the 16th floor of the Nirvana tower, the view of the sunset is breath-taking, perfect with watching with a cocktail of your choice.
The hotel is housed in two buildings – The Oasis tower and the Nirvana tower, check-in takes place in the Oasis Tower, and this is where the family pool is located. The Nirvana Tower is just a few steps away from the main reception area, the adult only pool is located adjacent to this tower.
Each of the pools has a selection of regular sunbeds, lounge-style circular beds, and cabana beds. They all offer waiter service drinks which can be charged to your room using your wristband. There’s a swim up bar in the Adult and Lagoon pools. In addition to these two pools next to the hotel, a short walk across the bridge and down the stairs (or lift) brings you to a large lagoon-style pool, an even larger selection of sunbeds along with a man-mad sandy beach area with bean bag beach beds!
There’s a snack bar by the lagoon pool serving pizza, salads, tacos, ice creams etc. On Saturday afternoons, the Lagoon Pool is sectioned off for an Adult Only Pool Party (during which time children can use both pools in the main hotel)

- We took a trip out to one of the two waterparks on the island – we opted for Aqualand which was great, a fantastic choice of slides for kids of all ages, along with a lazy river and sun loungers to relax. Discount vouchers are usually given out at the airport so be sure to hold onto them if you’re considering this during your stay. Aqualand and Siam Park are both a short 10-15 minute drive from the Hard Rock Hotel.
