Having never been to Mexico before I was super excited to see it with my own eyes. As a personal travel advisor, I talk about it every day, hearing wonderful stories and about the memories people have made and I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself. I was not left disappointed.
From the moment I pulled up to the UNICO 20°87°, I knew I was in for a real treat. I arrived to blistering sunshine and not a cloud in sight. With my drink in hand, I had been checked-in in no time, and was taken to my room by my butler. I even got to choose which scent I’d like my room! I couldn’t believe the attention to detail and I’d only just arrived!
The concierge escorted me to my room on the top floor. Before arriving, I thought the resort might be a bit too big, however it didn’t feel it at all, it took no longer than a 5-minute walk to get anywhere really, and of course there are lifts throughout the resort too!
I was blown away by the rooms, there were ‘His & Hers’ mirrors and sinks, luxury toiletries and amenities, bathrobes and slippers. I even got 2 vouchers that I could take to the Spa to personalise my own sample products! I picked after sun balm and body lotion in the peppermint scent, lovely!
So, after I got over the wonders of my bathroom, (which, did I mention, had a very spacious shower with a rainfall shower head) I thought I’d better check out the rest of my room. The bed was a massive four-poster king size bed, and I honestly think it was one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had! It was comfortable, and I even got to choose the pillows I wanted using the app! 95% of the rooms at the UNICO 20° 87° have a sea view, so I couldn’t wait to see the view I had from my balcony. I walked out and saw my hydro spa tub, big enough for two, with complimentary bath salts, of course I used my UNICO App to schedule concierge to run me a bath for after my evening meal, could this get any better? My sea view was absolutely amazing, I could see for miles and miles, I also had full view of the pool areas too, which was great because I could hear the music they were playing around the pool, so it bought a bit of the atmosphere into my room.
A Serene Haven
After getting settled in my room, I thought it was time to familiarise myself with the rest of the resort. I headed straight to the pool where there was a pool party in full swing, this happens 3 times a week. We got our sun loungers, a waiter had taken our drinks order within a couple of minutes, there was a DJ and a Saxophonist playing a whole mixture of music, from current pop to classic R&B, to old school charts. There was something for everyone, the atmosphere was brilliant, with giant floats in the pool, there was even a Unicorn. It was modern, relevant and the perfect balance of class and sophistication, but with a party atmosphere, I knew that this resort would be the perfect resort for adults looking for a modern 5* luxury hotel but with that lively vibe. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel for couples, celebrating a special occasion or to groups of friends looking for a treat, it is definitely a hotel for socialising, music, great food & drinks. Get a Mixologist to make you something special at the bar, alcoholic or not, they have something for everyone.
Wining & Dining
The restaurants on site are actually set slightly away from the rest of the main hotel facilities, to create the feeling of going out for your evening meal. The restaurants are a mixture of buffet and A la Carte for breakfast and lunch, but they are all A la Carte for the evening, and I must say the restaurants were beautiful. We ate in the Italian and it was delicious. Service was so attentive, food was prepared and presented impeccably, and the drinks were flowing.
Afterwards, we headed straight for the cocktail bar. It was stocked full of the top shelf and premium branded spirits and liquors, I was spoilt for choice! The DJ was playing great music and the dancefloor was full. There is also an outside terrace, complete with its own bar.
We opted for the buffet breakfast most mornings, being slightly fussy with food, I like to see what my options are before committing to any serious decisions! Any changes I asked for were accommodated without question. We were also asked every time we stepped into any restaurant whether we had any dietary requirements, such as allergies or if we required gluten free. There were lots of options, from freshly cooked omelettes with your choice of fillings prepared right in front of you, pancakes, sausages, bacon, fresh fruit, croissants, waffles, every type of egg you could think of, even chicken enchiladas.
Exploring the Destination
I was absolutely loving this resort, so much so, that I had to be pulled from my sun lounger to take a visit to the Tulum Ruins, I was amazed by the history and story behind the ruins, I would recommend anyone taking a trip there if they can and opting for a guided tour. Remember to take a few dollars to tip, sun cream and plenty of water. The guide walked us around the grounds, stopping at shady points to tell us lots of interesting information. Once I saw the ruins I understood why they were such a popular attraction. They looked just like the pictures I’d seen! We even spotted lots of lizards basking in the sun.
In the evening we had organised to voyage out on a sunset cruise, we were welcomed with a choice of Rum Punch or Tequila Sunrise. I took my Rum Punch and headed to the front of the catamaran, we got comfortable and set sail. After around 45 minutes of sailing, the boat turned and we saw the most beautiful horizon, make sure you take your photos then, because the sun sets within minutes. After watching the sun set, we headed back towards the harbour, Puerto Adventuras. With boxes of meats, cheeses, crackers and mixed fresh fruit served on the return trip. What a lovely way to end such a majestic experience.
So, after all the pool parties, butler service, boat trips, visiting the ruins, working on my tan, trying all the drink and getting involved in the water aerobics, it was time to check out of this fabulous resort. We managed to organise a late check out room – an attempt just to stay that little bit longer! A bell boy collected our luggage and took it down to reception for us, where he stored our suitcases whilst we waited for our transfer. I reluctantly handed my key card back to reception and had one more farewell drink.
