A bit about Fuerteventura
The second-largest island in the archipelago, Fuerteventura has year-round sunshine, and the most remarkable endless swathes of beaches in the Canaries. Stray away from the coastline, though, and you will find plenty of treasures off-the-beaten-track. Wind-whipped lava fields and valleys of euphorbia give way to centuries-old villages that have missed the march of mass tourism. Something of a diamond in the rough, the rugged, volcanic landscape provides striking natural scenery, which was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2009. Tuck into tapas in Corralejo harbour, or get away from it all on Los Lobos island.
